According to the deployment of the Leading Group of the special campaign against IPR infringement and counterfeiting, the Ministry of Commerce on December 2010 launched a crackdown campaign targeting at online shopping. Until now, positive results have been achieved.
It focused on such key products as books, audio-visual products, electronic appliances, apparel, cosmetics, foods, medicines and mother & baby products in the key areas of Zhejiang, Shanghai, Guangdong and Beijing.
According to incomplete statistics, up to the end of May this year, competent authorities across the country had investigated 628 key cases with a total value of 800 million yuan; closed down 829 illicit websites and online stores; arrested 463 suspects. In addition, Taobao, eBay and Paipai rectified their network trading platforms. As of the end of June, 2011, these three online shopping sites had accumulatively stemmed 44 million pieces of information concerning infringing and counterfeiting goods, frozen 1,100 merchant accounts and shut down 3,363 online stores.
The Ministry of Commerce will take a next step to establish a long-term supervision mechanism and conduct online shopping legislation.
