"China and Egypt enjoy a time-honored friendship and the cooperation between the two sides' intellectual property authorities has been of growing importance especially as the trades between the two countries have been increasingly frequent and flourishing," said Li Yuguang, Deputy Commissioner of China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), when he met the visiting Egyptian delegation led by Mr. Adel, President of the Egyptian Patent Office (EGPO). After the meeting, the two parties signed a 2011 bilateral cooperative plan, which covers issues concerning high-level visits, personnel training and the retrieval and exchange of patent documents.
Li pointed out at the meeting that China and Egypt share a common view about the international intellectual property system, which should be designed to effectively balance the interests between right holders and the public. He said that the Egyptian's practice in adjusting and optimizing its IP-related legal system is a significant reference for China.
Looking forward to the effective role of the coming Egyptian intellectual property institute, Mr. Adel expected both parties to enhance cooperation in expanded sectors and promote the protection of intellectual property rights.
