2011/07/13

The city's largest case of counterfeit liquor production was recently closed with 46-year-old farmer Li Yunlong from Henan province sentenced to four years in prison and fined 120,000 yuan ($18,552).

According to court testimony, Li and his assistant Fu Shaobo rented a storehouse in Beijing's Tongzhou district last May and used it as a factory making liquor labeled as well-known brands such as Martell and Hennessy.

Local enforcement officers raided the site two months later and seized more than 1,100 bottles of counterfeit branded alcohol worth nearly 220,000 yuan in potential retail sales.

They also found 28 buckets of raw ingredients, enough to make another 2,000 bottles, and 28 delivery orders that showed the products had been sold nationwide.

Fu was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 20,000 yuan.
