Tianjin promoting patent transformation

2011/07/12

Tianjin City will focus on the implementation of a plan dubbed as scientific and technological "giants" cultivation during the period of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", that is, to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and to accelerate the transformation of economic development mode by strengthening indigenous intellectual property creation. Tianjin Municipal Intellectual Property Office (Tianjin IPO) thus spared no effort to lay a solid foundation for building Tianjin to a national IP demonstration city, including popularizing IP education, helping small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) get access to financial investment and promoting the transformation of IP achievements.

Tianjin IPO pledged to make a good beginning during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan". The Office has formulated 30 working highlights in 8 parts, such as fully implementing IP strategy, enhancing IP services and deepening the crackdown campaign.

The advancing IP initiative ushered in great achievements. During the first quarter of 2011, Tianjin received 12,174 patent applications, up 66.7% over the same period last year; 2,361 patent grants, up 12.8% and 6,463 invention patents, up 30.9%. All these three aspects reached a new high without precedent. In addition, Tianjin IPO is promoting the transformation of major invention patents granted in 2010. Up to now, 80% of invention patents have been commercialized.
