Guangxi has made interim progress in the special campaign on fighting against intellectual property infringements and manufacture and distribution of fake and shoddy commodities, said officials at a press conference held by the regional leading group of the special crackdown.
Since the campaign was launched in late October 2010, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has cracked a series of major cases, where law enforcement officials seized a great number of fake goods and caught a group of offenders suspected of producing and selling counterfeits. The actions have effectively purified the market environment and helped to educate the public to respect and protect intellectual properties. Moreover, Guangxi's efforts in eliminating the use of pirated software in governmental departments have been recognized by the State Council (the Cabinet) supervision working group.
By 15 June, the Autonomous Region has inspected more than 4,300 marketplaces and 76,600 operators and weeded out 31,900 IPR infringing commodities. As many as 2,208 cases have been filed accordingly, in which 1,779 worth of 43.31 million yuan have been concluded and 30 valued at 22.58 million yuan have been transferred to judicial authorities, while 380,000 pieces of items have been confiscated so far.
In the next stage, Guangxi will step up its efforts in combating IPR violations and counterfeits by enhancing interdepartmental cooperation, tackling infringements at the source and supervising the handling of serious cases. It will also try to build up a permanent working mechanism to knock off IPR violations and create a sound social environment for IPR protection.
