"Goods shipped by foreign vessels were suspected of IP infringement." Gaolan Customs, subordinated to Gongbei Customs in Zhuhai City, released the news to media on June 29. Gaolan Customs had tracked down two such cases.
The Rules Department of Gongbei Customs affirmed on June 24 the infringement of the seized 26 pieces of goods. It was introduced that the counterfeit goods included cell phones and video recorders with "NOKIA", "SONY", "LG" and "BlackBerry" labels, USB Disks and counterfeit "CASIO" digital watches, which were all detained in accordance with law by Gongbei Customs.
Gaolan Customs found an employee from one ocean shipping supplying company selling unauthorized goods. As being suspected of IP infringement, all goods were detained.
During the same day on May 15, Gaolan Customs found another batch of undeclared cargoes, including one NOKIA mobile phone and ten CASIO digital watches.
According to customs regulations, transport means on exit, entry or in transit should be subject to customs supervision. The above-mentioned goods were in the scope of supervision. Once goods were suspected of infringement, customs would resolve such import and export violations in line with law.
It is the first time for Gaolan Customs to tackle such cases involved with goods shipped by foreign vessels. Gaolan Customs expressed that they would continuously strengthen the investigation of IPR infringing cases; increase the publicity of customs supervision regulations in ocean shipping supplying companies, supervision docks and agencies; and advance the actual supervision over goods shipped by foreign vessels through various approaches such as investigating goods, supervising docks and boarding to check.
