China owns the overall intellectual property rights of the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Rail (abbrev. CRH), said Deng Wei, a spokesman of the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo, in answer to reporters' questions concerning China's filing of international patent applications for CRH during a regular press conference on 29 June, reported by Kyodo News.
By illustrating the innovation process of the high-speed rail, Deng contradicted the arguments which alleged China's applying for the international patents might harm relevant countries' benefits.
China owns CRH's entire intellectual property rights, said Deng, for the country had made huge endeavor and conquered many technical problems in the re-designing and further improving the internal components of the prototype imported from foreign countries before finally launching the 350 km/h CRH train. "The high-speed railway adopted in the Beijing-Shanghai line was developed based on those innovations."
Deng pointed out that "there has been no IPR dispute with foreign countries in this regard so far." China has paid great attention to the creation, management, protection and utilization of the intellectual property rights in the development of the high-speed vehicle. Since 2003 the country has filed 1,902 patent applications for CRH, of which 1,421 have been issued and 481 are still in process, said Deng citing a statistic from the Ministry of Railway.
