Tianjin: Billion yuan for online games

The Binhai High-Tech Industrial Development Area plans to establish a 1 billion yuan ($154.6 million) fund to purchase online game copyrights, the first of its kind in the country, Liu Li, vice-director of the area's administrative committee, said at the opening ceremony for a digital copyright trade center in the city last week.

The fund will be used to buy domestic online game copyrights for overseas distribution.

In cooperation with game providers in South Korea, Europe, the United States and Southeast Asia, the fund is expected to not only promote overseas distribution, but also expand the influence of Chinese culture.
