Recently, the intellectual property offices of Songjiang, Jinshan and Baoshan Districts in Shanghai have conducted a series of special enforcement campaigns on combating IP infringement and counterfeits.

An enforcement team formed by the IP offices together with the administrations for industry and commerce, quality supervision and drugs in Songjiang and Jinshan Districts, has investigated patented commodities in local stores selling home appliances, such as Gome and Suning, and also in some shopping malls, finding no ill-formed patent marks or illegal activities related to IPR.

During this investigation, the authorities have explained and disseminated IP regulations to business operators, guided them to use IP marks appropriately and urged them to pay more attention to IP issues in purchase.

Another enforcement team, consisting of 9 officials from Baoshan IP Office and some officials from the policy and regulation department in Shanghai Municipal IP Office, has inspected 210 patented commodities in Gome and Suning in Baoshan District, and only found one ill-formed patented mark in one store. The store owner has immediately taken measures to rectify the error when informed.

During the enforcement, the officials have educated the shop keepers on IP knowledge and have given IP materials to them in order to increase their consciousness on IP protection. The activity also helped to create a favorable IP environment in local commodity circulation fields.
