Annual patent grants in Tianjin exceeded 10 thousand for the first time in 2010. Patent grants for industrial design increased by over 50% on a year-on-year basis. The progress achieved indicated that the public consciousness on intellectual property protection in the city has been significantly increased, according to the 2010 White Paper of IPR development and protection in Tianjin released the other day.

It was learnt from the latest statistics in the White Paper that in 2010, the city has received 25,142 patent applications, which increased by 31.0 % from 2009; 10,998 of them were granted, up 52.4%.

By the end of last year, the effective patents have reached 29,672 and over 80% of the invention patents have been actually implemented.

10 patents granted in the city last year were awarded as excellent patents in the 12th China patent award event, which hit the historic high record.

700 institutions and enterprises submitted their first-ever patent application last year.

In a bid to increase the public consciousness on IPR protection, the city has taken a series of actions participated by 2 thousand designers and thousands of students from more than 120 schools to disseminate IPR knowledge to over 100 thousand citizens in Tianjin.
