Patent applications in Shanxi ranked 19th nationwide

It was reported from Shanxi Provincial Intellectual Property Office that patent applications in Shanxi Province totaled 7,927 in 2010, ranking the 19th nationwide. Compared to the original projected collection of 8.5 patent applications per 100 thousand capita, the actual performance reached 23.1 per 100 thousand capita.

According to recent statistics, during the period of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, Shanxi had totally received 26,292 patent applications, two times more than that of the Tenth Five-Year Plan period. The applications filed in 2010 accounted for 54.8% of the total applications since the stipulation of Patent Law 25 years ago. The patent applications represented three features. First, the technology content was on a rise, with 9,698 invention patent applications which accounted for 36.8% of the total patent applications; second, the structure of patent applications appeared more reasonable. Enterprises as the major innovation force played a more important role in patent transformation, filing 8,769 patent applications which accounted for 33.3% of the total applications in Shanxi; and third, the province invested 4 million yuan in establishing Shanxi Patent Technology Exhibition and Exchange Center with an area of 1,200 square meters, which was one of the largest-scale and most modern Patent  Exhibition and Exchange Centers in China. It published online more than 500 patent technology exchange projects, and 14 transactions were achieved, involving a total value of 27 million yuan.

Additionaly, Shanxi had put forward the industrialization of patent technology through various financing channels such as technology fund and had provided about 85.4 million yuan finance for more than 100 small and medium sized high-tech enterprises. Apart from the current 3 patent agencies in the province, another 5 were newly established and all these 8 agencies provided over half of the agent service across the province.
