Three million pieces of pirated and illegal publications were destroyed in an event organized by a leading group of anti-pornography and anti-illegal publications in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province in south China known historically as Canton, on April 23.
Lin Xiong, member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, minister of provincial propaganda and chief of the provincial leading group of anti-pornography and anti-illegal publications, Lei Yulan, deputy governor of Guangdong Province and deputy chief of the provincial leading group of anti-pornography and anti-illegal publications, Wang Xiaoling, member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, minister of municipal propaganda and chief of the municipal leading group of anti-pornography and anti-illegal publications, Zhu Zhongnan, director of Provincial Press Publication Bureau and member of the provincial leading group of anti-pornography and anti-illegal publications, participated in the event.
Provincial and municipal leaders delivered “green bookmarks” and leaflets on intellectual property protection to the public during the event. They also signed up on the banner of the “Green Mark Action 2011” to show their support.
Lei pointed out that the destruction action was a sign of the province’s determination to combat intellectual property infringement and counterfeits and it also helped to create a sound cultural environment for the Universiade 2011 to be held in Shenzhen.
