Gansu to combat online fakes

2011/04/18

A special campaign on cracking down upon intellectual property infringement and manufacture and sales of counterfeit and shoddy commodities in online shopping areas was jointly conducted by administrations for industry and commerce, communications, quality supervision, commerce, intellectual property rights, press publications as well as public security organs, the People’s Bank of China and the customs in Gansu Province on April 12.

It was stipulated that from now on, business licenses of online stores had to be displayed on the websites to the public; commodity information would be deleted and stores would be shut down once IP infringing business operations were found.

Administrations for industry and commerce at all levels in the province have taken a series of measures to enhance IP protection on trademarks, copyrights and patent by supervising products in key areas, including books, audio-visual materials, home appliances, garments, cosmetics, food, medicine and mother and baby essentials. Meanwhile, online business operators were required to actually use their real names for enrollment and prove they’re who they say they are, so the consumers would have more recourse in case of something happening.

Administrations for industry and commerce in Gansu required online sellers to display their business licenses in a conspicuous place on their website to the public and to consciously protect trademark rights, copyrights and the exclusive rights of enterprises’ names.

Online business operators would be punished for dishonest dissemination of their products and service and they have been required to notify consumers of necessary information related to their products and service such as names, varieties, quantities, quality, prices, delivery fees, delivery modes, payment terms and return modes in advance.

During the crackdown on combating online fakes, cases involving IPR violation crimes should be transferred to public security organs without any delay.
