There is an increasing trend for violations of well-known brands, according to customs of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province. The infringements discovered were mainly related to mobile phones, garments, watches and optical disks with brands such as Samsung, Motorola, Adidas and Nike.
Harbin customs uncovered 40 cases involved in intellectual property (IP) infringements in the first quarter of 2011, 29 of which were detected in export procedures and 11 were found during import. The number of IP cases filed increased by 25% from last year; 1,855 IP infringing commodities were seized during the period, valuing at 162 thousand yuan.
Harbin customs has taken a series of measures to protect intellectual property rights. From January 2006 to December 2010, they have uncovered 338 IP infringing cases involving 5.11 million yuan and seized 93,702 commodities, ranking 6th nationwide in terms of the number of cases filed. In 2010, 140 IP violations were found by Harbin customs, with 9,949 commodities valuing at about one million yuan seized.
