Nanjing in Jiangsu to encourage IP creations

Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, has officially released the "Opinions on Implementing the Municipal Outline of Intellectual Property Strategy" to foster the creation, exploitation and protection of intellectual property (IP) and improve the mechanisms on training and services in the vital sector. The new policies contain four major supportive measures as follows:
1. Encouraging IP creation: The government will subsidize local applicants for their application and registration of patents, software copyright and circuit designs and will subsidize top patent owners and applicants in patent maintenance fees.
2. Strengthening IP exploitation and industrialization: The Opinions request relevant authorities and businesses to industrialize 100 significant patents each year and provide subsidies up to 500 thousand yuan to programs that have achieved outstanding progress. In parallel, a batch of demonstrative bases for patent industrialization shall be established in innovation parks.
3. Enhancing IP protection: Competent authorities shall reinforce the coordination between judicial and administrative departments in IP enforcement, set up a dispute resolve framework to deal with IP problems overseas and provide effective suggestions to enterprises in the regard.
4. Enhancing the training of IP professionals: Relevant departments shall support the trainings for local business owners and would-be IP engineers and bring out a batch of IP professionals with adequate knowledge on national laws and international practices as well as a number of professional IP agents.
