Jingzhou police have arrested 23 suspects for production and sale of fake medicines after uncovering six production sites.

Using sawdust, bran and flour, the facilities produced at least 100 million counterfeit capsules over a six-month period that were labeled as 201 types of certified medicine.

The fakes were sold nationwide over the Internet.

A plastic-wrapped sheet of 12 fake capsules cost just 0.3 yuan to make and retailed for more than 10 yuan, according to Guo Zhiqiang, an official of the city's drug administration.
