2011/03/17
On March 11, the supervision authorities in Xinjiang autonomous region burned counterfeit and shoddy commodities confiscated in the special campaign at Dongshan garbage dump.
The destruction was in compliance with the “Notice on the special campaign on cracking down upon intellectual property infringement and manufacture and sales of counterfeit and shoddy commodities” and relevant departments further combated IP infringement and fake products in production areas across Xinjiang. Since the beginning of November last year, quality and supervision administrations in the autonomous region have started the special campaign and confiscated numerous spurious articles destroyed on March 11.
Mamat. Turdi, Secretary of the Quality and Supervision Office of Xinjiang, said, "There are all together 13 destruction sites in the cities of Ili, Aksu, Urumqi and etc. The Office pays great attention to environmental issues in the destruction activities, and the destruction methods are decided according to the physical properties of the articles. Fake wine and liquid cosmetics are buried; inferior mechanical components and home appliances are crushed and recycled; substandard food and solid cosmetics are burnt. The value of the articles destroyed in one day reaches 8.43 million yuan. There are 12 trucks of destroyed articles for Urumqi, including 168 varieties under 6 categories, such as food, detergent, building materials and electronics, with total cargo value of more than 7.5 million yuan."
Mamat. Turdir remarked that the destruction aimed at achieving a deterrent effect, raising public consciousness on fighting against counterfeit and shoddy commodities, encouraging customers to report and expose relevant illegal activities, creating a fair, just and open market environment and increasing public consuming confidence.
After the destruction activities, the quality and supervision authorities plan to associate special campaigns with daily supervision to further create a better market environment, improve and safeguard people’s livelihood, promote regional economic development and maintain long-term social stability.
More than 300 officials from Xingjiang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Office, the Quality and Supervision Office of Xinjiang and the Quality and Technical Supervision Office of Midong New District participated in the destruction activities.
