2011/03/17

A working conference was held by Qingdao municipal leading group on cracking down upon infringement of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and production and sales of fake and shoddy commodities. Zhang Hui, member of the municipal CPC Standing Committee and vice mayor of the city, addressed the meeting.

Since last November, following the national and provincial deployment on fighting against IPR infringement, Qingdao has accomplished 12 tasks of primary importance and has made significant achievement, including cracking numerous serious cases and taking the lead among its counterparts in the county in banning the use of pirated software in government departments. By February 25, Qingdao has dispatched 95,000 enforcement officials, investigated 120,000 enterprises, uncovered 1,492 IPR violations, filed 722 cases, confiscated 169 million yuan and destroyed 74 sites conducting IPR-related illegal activities.

Zhang urged relevant authorities to take the opportunity of the International Consumer Day on March 15 to strengthen the crackdown on problems that have aroused great public concern, such as piracy and food security. Special actions shall be taken to clean up suspected markets, enterprises and regions to safeguard the rights of IPR owners.
