Urumqi in Xinjiang: patent grants increased by 50% in 2010

In 2010, patent grants and applications in Urumqi were 1,728 and 1,190, accounting for 48.5% and 46.4% of the total in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with a year on year increase of 35.1% and 53.5% - the biggest growth in recent years in the city.

Among patent applications, there were 541 for inventions, 1,013 for utility models and 174 for designs, while in patent grants, 126 were for patents, 899 for utility models and 165 were for designs. Patent applications and grants for inventions have increased by 50.6% and 34% respectively.

Statistics show that in 2010 Urumqi's patent applications and grants both grew significantly and more patents were applied and granted for inventions than ever, revealing Urumqi's vibrant development in independent innovation. Complying with the national and provincial strategies on IP implementation, Urumqi has taken various measures to promote and protect intellectual property and has created a healthy environment for technical innovation and inventions, which has in turn contributed to the large growth in patents.
