Sichuan: Patent grants in Chengdu increases by 58.91%

Patent applications and grants in Chengdu last year significantly increased, ranking the second and the third in nationwide sub-provincial cities respectively. According to statistics, last year, patent applications in Chengdu were 31,261 pieces, increasing by 19.69% compared with the same period of last year; patent grants were 25,981 pieces, increasing by 58.91% compared with the same period of last year. It is worth mentioning that enterprises’ application of patents for highly innovative inventions increased by 27.41%.
In addition, reporters learned from the Municipal Intellectual Property Office that in order to enhance the comprehensive use of IPR by enterprises, after several months’ examination, recently, Municipal Intellectual Property Office, Municipal Economy and Informationalization Commission, Municipal Business Administration Bureau, and Municipal Copyright Bureau jointly identified 26 enterprises as the second batch of Chengdu intellectual property demonstration enterprises, such as Chengdu Kanghong Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd.; and indentified 68 enterprises as the second batch of Chengdu intellectual property pilot enterprises, such as IPGoal Microelectronics (Sichuan) Co., Ltd.
It is reported that since 2006, Chengdu established the first batch of IPR pilot and demonstration enterprises. At present, it has developed 15 national pilot demonstration enterprises such as Sichuan University and Di’ao Group; 109 provincial pilot demonstration enterprises, such as Maipu Communication Technology Co., Ltd.; 60 municipal pilot and demonstration enterprises, such as CDGM Glass Co., Limited. Comprehensive intellectual property protection ability of city's pilot and demonstration enterprises is enhanced. Intellectual property rights have become core elements and strategic resources for enterprises in international and domestic market competition, and it promoted the rapid development of enterprises.
In order to enhance the innovation and implementation ability of intellectual property rights, Chengdu established a governmental patent award, encouraging each winner of the Gold, Silver, and Award of Excellence with a bonus of RMB60,000, RMB30,000 and RMB10,000 respectively. Meanwhile, the importance of intellectual property rights is highlighted in the process of establishment and examination of major projects, assessment of high-tech enterprises, and evaluation of professional titles. It improved "Chengdu Patent Funding Management Approaches" which attached great importance to patent inventions, foreign patents and service inventions. Also it developed and implemented "Chengdu Innovative Products Identification Approaches "and" Interim Measures on Government Purchases of Independent Innovation Products ", according to which, nearly 300 items were acknowledged as independent innovative products. At the same time, enterprises innovation teams will be awarded with 50 million and 20 million yuan respectively for being identified as national and provincial engineering & technical centers.
