In the previous quarter, Apple sold 14.1 million iphones and the mobile phone sector has become the company's largest business with its profits accounting for 43% of total revenue. When preparing for another round of market promotion, Apple was sued by its rival Motorola for infringement on October 8. On October 29, when Motorola’s proceeding has not yet been formally accepted, Apple took the initiative and brought Motorola to the Western District Court of Wisconsin, starting a war to defend its intellectual property.Mark Kesslen, an U.S. IP lawyer said, patent litigation is a means to combat competitors. He said: "They want more than market competition. They would make use of patent portfolio to drag and squeeze their rivals."
