A hundred patent applications submitted by Xiamen to foreign patent authorities has recently received national subsidies of 4.25 million RMB, after being examined and appraised by China’s Ministry of Financeand State Intellectual Property Office.
There were 122 patents from 32 organizations in Xiamen in total applied for subsidy in 2010 and the gross subsidy applied reached 5.56 million RMB. After appraisal and public review processes conducted by MOF and SIPO, 100 patent items from 21 organizations finally received a fund of 4.25 million RMB. The chosen projects are applying for patents in many countries and regions, such as the U.S., the European Union, India, Canada, Japan, Korea and Brazil.
It was known that MOF recently issued “Tentative Measures on Administration of Special Funds for Subsidizing Chinese Patent Applications in Foreign Countries”, providing that domestic SMEs, public or R&D institutions applying for patents in foreign authorities via PCT and specifying SIPO as the preliminary agency can apply for the subsidy.
