American Finnegan Law Firm Holds IPR Lecture in Shanghai

2010/11/03

Finnegan, one of the largest IP law firms in the world, lately held an advanced lecture on intellectual property rights which attracted many businesses.

According to Finnegan partner Erik, the main reasons causing trade friction between China and the United States are revaluation, tariff and 337 investigation launched by the United State Patent and Trademark Office over Chinese enterprises. Erik thought that the most serious issue of Chinese enterprises in IP protection was too weak protection on their products, invention and creation. Thus, once these products enter American market, they are easily sued on intellectual property rights. On the other hand, since Chinese enterprises have fewer patents, they can defend themselves merely at courts and can not counterclaim others. Erik suggested that Chinese enterprises should pay much importance to IP protection as early as possible and should file patent applications for their products and inventions once they decide to enter into certain markets.
