The 3rd Cross-Strait Seminar on Copyright Protection was held in on October 28. The event was jointly organized by Copyright Society of China (CSC) and the Chinese Commercial & Industrial Coordination Society (CCICS), aiming at expediting the implementation of Cooperation Agreement on Intellectual Property Rights Protection between China mainland and Taiwan and promoting communication and development of copyright industry.
The annual cross-strait copyright seminar should not only focus on actual practices including strengthening operation, jointly cracking down on piracy and other infringement activities and promoting the development of copyright industry, but also attach great importance to theories and principles, e.g. doing sufficient studies on Chinese traditional culture and philosophical ideas from Confucius to Sun Yat-sen, the evolution of Chinese history since the Revolution of 1911, the development of legislation as well as legal systems on copyright adopted by developed countries such as Europe the U.S. and Japan, so as to come up with a modern theory on copyright that in accordance with Chinese national philosophy, said in a speech by Shen Rengan, chairman of CSC.
The main purposes of signing the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) between China mainland and Taiwan in the past June are to achieve mutual tariff reduction, remove non-tariff trade barriers, strengthen economic cooperation, create a safe environment for enterprises, citizens and the economy, bring peace and development to people and further improve their relations on economic trade, providing a solid material basis for further integration of both sides in peaceful development, Liao zhide, vice president of CCICS, said in a speech.
