China Attends WIPO 2010 Assemblies

The Forty-Eighth series of Meeting of the Assemblies of the Member States of World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) was held in Geneva, Switzerland presently. Chinese delegation participated in the Assemblies.

The first two days of the 2010 Assemblies was reserved for a High-Level Segment, based on the theme “Innovation, Growth and Development: The Role of Intellectual Property and Member States’ National Experiences”. More than 70 ministers from WIPO member states attended the segment and discussed how to seek common points while reserving difference and establish a balanced and innovation friendly IP system. Commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office Tian Lipu addressed the High-Level Segment and introduced China’s experiences in IP field during the 30 years’ reform and opening-up. Tian Lipu called on the international society to “look at innovation in a wider view, treat IP protection in a more comprehensive standpoint, develop cooperation in a more open attitude and being tolerant in a broader chest. Tian Lipu’s remarks were applauded by the participants, particularly developing countries.

During the Forty-Eighth series of Meeting of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, Tian Lipu conducted bilateral talks with the leaders from the IP competent authorities of 15 countries including Brazil, Canada, France, Israel, Korea, England and the United States and those from international organizations such as the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) and WIPO.
