Some famous hypermarkets including Carrefour install pirate software on their sample computers. A law enforcement team of Beijing Administration of Industry and Commerce Haidian Branch discovered and seized 51 laptops of 11 different brands from shopping malls and supermarkets on 2nd August. 20 laptops sold at Carrefour in Zhongguancun, including the brands of Acer, Tsinghua Tongfang and Sony, were found to have been installed with pirate Microsoft operation systems. The supermarket personnel concerned explained that some staff might have had the software installed in order to demonstrate the performance of the computers, which are normally sold without the operation system. The law enforcement team, however, held that the installation of pirate software alone is an act of piracy. The 20 laptops in question are suspended and the investigation of the case is still in process.
