SAT( State Administration of Taxation) has recently made its first interpretation of Decision of the State Council about the Amendment to Customs Protection of IPR Regulations of the P.R.C , which indicates that the amended Regulations will impose more severe punishments for pirate goods. From now on, Chinese citizens carrying or posting excess pirate goods will be fined with 30% of the value of the goods, which will be confiscated. The amended Regulations, which came into effect on 1st April this year, also stipulates that the Customs have the right to conduct investigations to find out whether the confiscated goods have infringed others’ intellectual property rights.
