Aftershocks, a recent hit depicting a big earthquake in Tangshan in 1976, has given rise to heated discussions over product placements in movies. Many audience members feel that it is inappropriate to have so many product placements in a movie with such a serious theme. Zhang Hongsen, deputy chief of the film department of SARFT, claims that one effective way to reduce product placements in movies is by combating piracy-- a similar opinion previously voiced by Feng Xiaogang, a famous Chinese movie director.
