GAPP (General Administration of Press and Publication of PRC) released its analytic report of total output of the press and publication industry of 2009 in Beijing on 26th July. The report shows the total output of over a trillion RMB, accounting for 0.9% of GDP of the corresponding period, professional added value over 166 billion RMB, accounting for 60% of the added value of the core parts of the culture industry over the corresponding period. The year of 2009 saw the publication of 302,000 kinds of books, 9851 kinds of periodicals, 1,937 kinds of newspapers, 25,384 kinds of audio and video products and 10,708 kinds of electronic publications. There were a total of 357,000 press and publication units in China with nearly 4.5 million employees ,among which the numbers of males and females are about the same.
