HONG KONG, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong designers had a competitive edge in terms of design quality, market sense and global outlook, Rita Lau, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government (HKSAR), said on Tuesday while visiting a Hong Kong's design exhibition held at Shanghai Expo.
The exhibition themed "Hong Kong: Creative Ecologies - Business, Living, Creativity" provided a platform to showcase the international influence of the city's creative industry and talent, she said, according to a report posted on the website of the HKSAR.
The six-month exhibition, a major project funded under the 300 million Hong Kong dollars (about 38.6 million U.S. dollars) CreateSmart Initiative set up by Create Hong Kong, was one of the signature programs organized by Hong Kong during the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, which opened on May 1.
The exhibition featured a series of events, including three thematic shows and educational forums to profile Hong Kong's creative industries' excellence and advantage.
Lau also toured The Bridge 8, where the exhibition was held, to see how the site was developed into a creative cluster by revitalizing old community facilities with the injection of innovative and technological elements.
