NCAC Vice Director: authors’ rights should be respected

2010/04/20

Vice Director of General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) and National Copyright Administration (NCAC) Yan Xiaohong presently participated in the 5th Plenary Session of the 7th Association of Chinese Writers and lectured on the protection of writers' rights in the network environment, learnt from NCAC.
Yan Xiaohong pointed out that, the development of copyright system derived from literature works. In the network era, the spreading of writers' works should be permitted by concerned writers. The writer should inform the website if he or she found his or her works were used in an unauthorized way. The informed website must delete the works as soon as possible. If not, the website will be punished. Nowadays, some publishing houses use a special software to inspect which works were published on the Internet without authorization. However, some websites eluded their infringement obligations by changing their domain names.
Yan Xiaohong believed that, the idea that "piracy is favorable to the public" still existed, which helped the pirated find its market. Only by making the whole society clearly know that piracy is a disgusting thing, can a healthy environment be created for writers' innovation.
