Survey shows 406 intangible cultural heritage items in Tibet

Since 2005, a total of 406 intangible cultural heritage projects have been found in Tibet, sources from the Tibet intangible cultural heritage protection work report meeting on Dec 19.

Nyima Tsering, director of TAR Cultural Affairs department said:" 406 projects have been found as the intangible cultural heritage projects, by carrying on the researches about 14 kinds folk resources such as folk literature, folk music, folk dance, traditional opera, handicraft skill, consumption habit, traditional sport game, and traditional medicine. Among them, there are 30 projects related to Lhasa Shoton Festival, 9 about the Tibetan medicine knowledge, 20 kinds of folk music, 116 kinds of traditional dances, 19 kinds of Tibetan opera, 7 ones of Thangka painting, and other 104 folk handicraft works. The founded intangible cultural heritage projects are mainly located in Lhasa, Lhoka, Xigaze, Chamdo, Nyingchi, Nagqu, and Ngari. "

Ma Shengde, deputy chief of Intangible Cultural Heritage Culture Department gave a high evaluation about the protection work of intangible cultural heritage in Tibet.
