24 agricultural GI trademarks become "well-known"

"Up to now, China has approved 714,000 pieces agricultural product trademarks, Geographical Indication (GI) trademarks are 735 pieces and 24 of them were authorized as well-known trademarks by State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC)". This was learnt from the International Seminar on Geographical Indication in Asian-Pacific Region which was co-sponsored by SAIC and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The meeting aims at mutually discussing agricultural trademarks and GI law systems, the registration, application and protection of agricultural trademarks and GI and the successful experiences on promoting the development of rural economics. Over 200 representatives from WIPO, African Intellectual Property Organization, the officials of each country's IP administration departments in Asian-Pacific Region, some member units of the working inter-department committee for national IP strategy implementation, experts and scholars of domestic universities and research institutions and industrial and commercial administration system.
Deputy Director of SAIC indicated at the meeting that, up to October 2009, China's accumulative amount of trademark applications are 7,063,000 pieces, accumulative registration amount are 4,034,000 pieces, and effective registration amount are 3,250,000 pieces, and China has became the biggest trademark country in the world.
