Celanese Sues Chinese Rival over Patent for Artificial Sweetener “200% Sweeter than Sugar”

2019/10/18

Global chemical company Celanese has taken legal action against a Chinese manufacturer of high-potency sweeteners that is allegedly infringing one of its patents.

In its announcement on October 15, Celanese said it had filed a patent infringement claim against Anhui Jinhe Industrial for the "unlawful manufacture and sale" of its acesulfame potassium sweetener.

Anhui Jinhe’s sweetener allegedly infringes Celanese' s Chinese patent (Chinese number 10,441,1693,B) which is directed to improve production processes for making Celanese' s acesulfame potassium sweetener, Sunett.

According to the release, Sunett is 200-times sweeter than sugar, zero-calorie and dental-friendly.

Celanese said the patent provides "substantial technology advantages’’ that are recognised as exclusive to the company.
