Smartphone vendor Oppo said it will launch the world's first 5G smartphone equipped with Qualcomm's dual-mode chip by the end of this year, as the company ramps up innovation to tap increasing demands.
Tang Hai, chief 5G scientist at Oppo, said the new smartphone will support both SA and NSA networking at the Qualcomm 5G Summit on October 16.
The smartphone vendor topped other domestic firms for number of patents granted in September according to the National Intellectual Property Administration, with second and third being Huawei Technologies Co and State Grid Corporation of China.
Oppo had been selling 5G smartphones in key European markets since May, with promising figures in Sweden, Italy and the United Kingdom.
It has also partnered with Swisscom AG, a major telecommunications provider in Switzerland, to bring its first commercially available 5G device to the country.
