Nintendo admits asking Apple to remove DS simulator

2009/08/21

Nintendo on Thursday acknowledged its role in the removal of a DS simulator app, DS DoubleSys, from the App Store. The app was not licensed or approved by Nintendo, although it simulates the DS interface with similar sounds and menus. Nintendo spokesman Charlie Scibetta told CNET News the company notified Apple that the app was violating intellectual property rights.

"Nintendo respects the intellectual property rights of other companies, and in turn expects others to respect ours as well," Scibetta said. "Nintendo did seek the removal of this application as we vigorously protect against infringement of our intellectual property rights."

Along with the app, Nintendo also requested the removal of a YouTube video published by the developer. While the app was available, it achieved fairly high rankings amongst music titles and arcade games.
