On the afternoon of Nov. 14, 2007 local time, a court in Munich, Germany rendered a first instance judgment on the case involving the trademark of Wangzhihe, which was snatched by OKAI Company of Germany. The court held for Wangzhihe Food Group Co. Ltd., ordering OKAI Company to stop using the Wangzhihe trademark in Germany, and revoked the snatched trademark. If OKAI failed to appeal within a month, the judgment would come into effect.
It is said that this is the first case filed overseas by a Chinese time-honoured brand to safeguard its lawful rights. OKAI is a German import and export company owned by an ethnic Chinese German with its headquarters in Berlin. In March last year, the trademarks of Wangzhihe for fermented bean curd, flavorings, and sales service were registered by the said German company.
